UK-based children’s charity Children of Colombia is run by seven Trustees with a common desire to help children in need. They believe that fund raising should be fun and the donations made with love and good will.
Children of Colombia has received considerable support and fund raising activities have included craft sales, coffee mornings, cocktail parties, pot-luck suppers, talks and audio-visual presentations to sponsorship and larger events such as fiestas with live music, concerts by The Antonius Players and Louis de Bernieres and book signings with Prue Leith and Susan Lewis.
As well as the desire to raise money for children in Colombia, the Trustees also believe that it is important to promote a general view of the country as a whole, showing the more positive aspects of Colombia as well as the need to support vulnerable children.
Francisca was born in Colombia where she grew up very aware of the differences between the haves and have nots. She has been involved in fund raising for her mother’s day nursery for most of her life. Francisca came to live in England in 2000.
Gwyneth lived in Colombia for three years and was liaison officer for a fund raising organisation in Bogota where she got to know the charities we support. She uses her PR background to help promote Children of Colombia.
Bryony lived in Colombia where her family was on posting with BP Exploration and lived in Bogota where she enjoyed learning about life in Colombia and met some of the young people in the outreach programme. Bryony has a Master's degree from UCL, is a qualified accountant and keen to use her skills and experience to help others.
Kate lived in Bogota for 6 years in the 1990s and has maintained connections with Colombia ever since, particularly with Fundacion Fénix. Whilst in Bogota she was a committee member of the ABCC (Anglo Colombian Charity Association) where her job was to visit and assess the needs of the charities the Association supported.
Fiona lived in Colombia for 18 years and grew up witnessing the social injustices that plague the country. She was actively involved in volunteering for different causes and is looking forward to continue giving back whilst living abroad. Fiona is working on a new website to attract more supporters to help Children of Colombia.
Alex spend most of her childhood years in Bogota, Colombia before moving to the UK. Alex currently lives and works in Australia but visits her family and friends in the UK and Colombia regularly. Alex has been setting up a social media campaign to spread Children of Colombia's growing support network.
Originally from Colombia and now based in London, Antonia is committed to helping children in need in Colombia. Antonia holds a Master's in Education in Arts and Cultural Settings at King's College London and a Master's in French Literature from Universite Paris IV-Sorbonne. She celebrates the foundation's commitment to allocating funds efficiently and with no overhead costs and is looking at new fundraising projects.
Antonia, Fiona and Alex return regularly to Colombia to visit family and friends in Bogota. They are now keen to visit Luz y Vida, Fenix and Natutama to get first hand information of their work and plans and report back with current news which we can pass on to our supporters and spread the word about the excellent and very difficult work these three organisations are doing to improve the lives and futures of young people in Colombia.
