'Venezuela's Lost Children' - Channel 4 Report on the Refugee Crisis on Colombia's n
TV director and camerman Nick Blakemore contacted Children of Colombia recently about his planned film documentary on the plight of Venezuelan children fleeing to Colombia to escape life-threatening poverty, hunger and medical shortages in their own country - currently the largest migration in the world. The programme 'Venezuela's Lost Children' was aired on the UK Channel 4's critically acclaimed foreign affairs series Unreported World on November 4. We asked Nick whether he'd managed to complete the project and he wrote:
"Yes, we filmed it in September and it went out last month. The reaction was incredible."
With journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy, the film crew reports from the secret tracks used as smugglers’ routes controlled by drug cartels which are now crowded with families and unaccompanied children making the dangerous crossing over the border into neighbouring Colombia where they then have to fend for themselves, often with no money and nowhere to stay.
